New Era for Swedish E-Procurement: SFTI Transitions to Peppol BIS Standards
Sweden's Single Face to Industry (SFTI), a public sector e-procurement initiative, is set to update its recommended standards by phasing out older formats in favor of Peppol BIS.
From July 1, 2025, the EDIFACT-based SFTI ESAP 6 standard for purchase orders will no longer be on SFTI’s recommended list, signaling a shift toward modern, standardized e-commerce communication for public sector interactions. SFTI, which includes entities like municipalities, regions, the Agency for Digital Administration (Digg), the Chamber of Commerce, and the Procurement Agency, is dedicated to streamlining digital procurement processes across Sweden.
To support this transition, SFTI advises public sector vendors to use Peppol BIS e-commerce standards, which cover a variety of business interactions.
The recommended Peppol BIS message formats include:
- Peppol BIS Catalog without response 3
- Peppol BIS Punch Out 3
- Peppol BIS Ordering 3
- Peppol BIS Order Agreement 3
- Peppol BIS Despatch Advice 3
- Peppol BIS Billing 3
To facilitate the adoption of Peppol BIS, SFTI has provided an Excel template and software tools designed for creating and managing Peppol BIS-compliant catalogs. These resources are part of SFTI’s broader support efforts to help public sector vendors and agencies transition smoothly to Peppol BIS, ensuring a unified and efficient e-procurement ecosystem across Sweden.
