Italy Granted Extension for Mandatory E-Invoicing System Until 2027

On December 19, 2024, the European Union Council published the Council Implementation Decision 2024/3150, granting Italy an extension for its mandatory e-invoicing system until December 31, 2027. This decision allows Italy to continue with its electronic invoicing requirements for businesses until the end of 2027, unless a new EU-wide electronic invoicing system is adopted.

The derogation granted to Italy remains valid unless the EU Council establishes a general e-invoicing system under Article 113 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU), which aims to harmonize indirect taxation regulations across EU member states.

This extension reflects Italy's commitment to modernizing its tax system and aligns with the EU’s broader objectives to streamline and standardize tax processes throughout the region.
