Introduction of E-invoicing Requirement for GST-registered Businesses in Singapore
Singapore’s Inland Revenue Authority (IRAS) announced plans to allow broader use of the country’s new InvoiceNow system. The phased implementation is set to start from May 1st, 2025 when some of the already GST-registered entities will be allowed to participate in the voluntary soft launch.
The second phase will include newly registered businesses starting from November 2025.
The final phase is planned to be launched in April 2026, when all other GST businesses will finally be able to join the network at will.
The Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) established in 2019, which was the first accredited Peppol Authority operating outside Europe, intends to digitize and promote electronic invoicing in Singapore. To reduce errors, and time spent processing invoices and payments, IMDA has created a nationwide network for e-invoicing - InvocieNow and promotes the adoption of electronic invoicing in the private sector.
Singaporean IMDA authority maintains a nationwide network under the name InvoiceNow. E-invoices are exchanged based on the PEPPOL interoperability framework. The accepted format is Peppol BIS Billing 3.0
In addition to serving domestic purposes, the network allows transacting with entities participating in the broader Peppol Network. Furthermore, it is designed to complement existing EDI through straightforward integration.
