E-invoice journey in Japan

Since its inception in July 2020, the E-invoice Promotion Association (EIPA) has been working to contribute to the digitization of overall commercial transactions and the improvement of business productivity through the "Eligible Invoice Storage System (Invoice System)" to be launched in October 2023.

Current state of e-invoicing

The current main activities of the EIPA are support and cooperation from the private sector in the formulation of standard specifications for digital invoices (standardized and structured electronic invoices). The electronic invoicing solution in Japan will be based on the global standard specification "PEPPOL" that was inaugurated in September 2021.
