Botswana to Launch E-Invoicing System for Tax Compliance by 2026

Botswana is set to introduce an electronic invoicing system aimed at improving tax compliance and reporting accuracy. Announced in the 2025/2026 Budget Speech by the Minister of Finance and Economic Development, the system is scheduled for completion by March 2026.

The e-invoicing solution will enable real-time tracking of VAT transactions, helping businesses report more accurately while enhancing efficiency for the Botswana Unified Revenue Service (BURS). This initiative is part of broader tax reforms, including VAT on digital transactions by September 2025 and new measures to monitor imported goods and reduce illicit trade.
