Memories of MWC Barcelona 2025 From the Comarch Team

At the beginning of March, the Comarch Telecommunications team joined the world's leading tech innovators at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) Barcelona 2025. With over 1,200 speakers, countless cutting-edge technologies on display, and a bustling schedule of meetings, the conference embodied this year's theme: "Converge. Connect. Create."

Our team was there to experience the event first-hand, and we'd like to share some of the key highlights and moments from our time at this landmark event for every branch of technology.

Mobile World Congress 2025 in numbers

This year's MWC matched the attendance record of 109,000 visitors set in 2019, marking a significant milestone for this event. Participants included delegates from 205 countries, with 56% representing sectors adjacent to the mobile ecosystem.

The diversity of attendees, which included 21% C-suite delegates and over 50% director-level professionals, made the event a melting pot of innovation and forward-thinking ideas. It was also inspiring to see the growing representation of women leaders, with 41% of the 1,200+ speakers being female, demonstrating a positive step toward inclusivity in tech leadership.

Magdalena Korzeniowska, Event & Marketing Specialist at Comarch, reflected on the event, noting, "MWC Barcelona 2025 was an extraordinary opportunity for exposure. Throughout the event, we engaged in hundreds of meetings, including many with C-level executives, not to mention an uncountable number of spontaneous conversations. To say it was productive would be a severe understatement."

Key technological trends and topics discussed at MWC 2025

As one of the most important events in the world of technology, Mobile World Congress in Barcelona was where businesses from across the globe debated the future direction of technological progress in the industry and showcased their latest innovations. Through countless meetings and exchanges, it became evident that the topics highlighted below were of greatest interest.

A new approach to artificial intelligence

The indisputable queen of all discussions during and after MWC was once again artificial intelligence (AI). As the limitations of AI become increasingly evident (such as its lack of attachment to specific locations, companies, or organizational structures, along with concerns over data security) organizations are prioritizing a more cautious, structured approach. The focus is now on embedding AI into everyday workflows while also developing appropriate safeguards.

Autonomous networks bridging technological silos

Autonomous networks are breaking down traditional silos in telecommunications, IT, and IoT by embracing cloud-native solutions. At MWC, experts emphasized the need for unified systems that consider interdependencies across previously isolated processes. Concepts such as self-optimizing networks and dark network operations centers are being combined, resulting in new ways of implementing self-diagnostics, self-repairs, and self-optimization, paving the way for cross-industry innovation and a more connected "techco" future.

Intent-based management in many applications thanks to generative AI

The success of generative AI models sparked many debates about their future. One key focus was simplifying user interactions with operators through intuitive interfaces (with some solutions already presented). However, heated discussions emerged around creating interfaces for operators' employees and whether universal AI models could work across specific applications. While support grows for industry-specific models, others advocate for universal AI to cut costs and accelerate development despite challenges with standardization. The role of cloud solutions also came up, with hybrid approaches leading the way. With no clear answers yet, these topics will likely remain a key topic at future congresses.

Using digital twins for AI training and developing security measures

Digital twin, a digital copy of physical infrastructure, is critical in training and controlling AI models if we want to entrust network management and configuration to artificial intelligence. It creates a safe environment where AI systems can be developed and observed without endangering real-life network infrastructure. At this year’s MWC, digital twins have been discussed in the context of security and detecting the network's vulnerabilities to the growing number of threats. The inclusion of AI significantly speeds up forecasting the effects of changes within the environment, especially in emergencies.

Open RAN gains significant support

The concept of open RAN has gained traction due to support from major manufacturers such as Samsung and Ericsson. Initially promoted by smaller suppliers, open RAN now has the potential to drive innovation in flexible power management, bandwidth optimization, and minimizing interference. A notable focus is developing unified systems to manage power and address real-time climate impact concerns efficiently. The move towards cloud-based telecom networks further highlights the need for standardized metrics and controls, which could shape future operator requirements and government standards, particularly in ecological efforts.

The rise of digital support system

The term "digital support system" (DSS) is gaining traction as a concept that merges the roles of traditional operational (OSS) and business (BSS) support systems. This new idea is also a result of the widespread adoption of AI systems that perform tasks across previously distinct areas, enabling greater integration and efficiency. The rise of DSS reflects broader trends, such as the adoption of the term "techco," which combines telecommunications and IT, rendering old divisions obsolete as specialized competencies are no longer essential.

Media spotlights for Comarch

Expert talks with the brightest minds in the technological world are just one aspect of what makes MWC so remarkable—this global event also attracts leading industry media. Our representatives had the honor of highlighting various aspects of Comarch's operations:

Oskar Wierchowicz, VP Business Growth & Strategy – Western Europe, gave an insightful interview for Euronews, explaining how AI supports telecom operators with autonomous networks.

Szymon Uczciwek, VP Business Growth & Strategy – MEA, was interviewed by Telecom Review, providing expert perspectives on the future of telecommunications and the role of AI in shaping next-generation networks in the Middle East.

These opportunities enabled us to share our expertise with a wider audience and demonstrate Comarch's strategy for delivering impactful technological solutions that tackle complex global challenges.

Marcin Kaleta, Vice President and Director of the Telecommunications Division at Comarch, shared his thoughts on the conference, saying, "MWC Barcelona is not only about industry-leading talks and panel discussions; it’s a space where meaningful dialogue and collaboration happen. The quality of our meetings this year highlights the growing trust in Comarch as a partner of choice in the telecommunications industry."

Distinguished visitors at the Comarch stand

One of the highlights of having a dedicated stand at MWC is the face-to-face interactions it enables. This year, we were honored to welcome esteemed Polish politicians to our stand: Krzysztof Gawkowski, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Digital Affairs, and Rafał Rosiński, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Digital Affairs. Their visit underscored Comarch's strong positioning not only as a global telecommunications player but also as a key representative of Polish innovation on the international stage.

Comarch’s takeaways from MWC 2025

Our time at MWC Barcelona 2025 provided invaluable opportunities to strengthen existing partnerships, explore potential collaborations, and gain insights into where the technological world is headed. The vibrant energy and forward momentum of this year's edition were truly inspiring and provided multiple opportunities to witness innovation in tangible forms.

MWC Barcelona 2025 proved that truly impactful progress comes from communities of innovators thinking big, sharing ideas, and working collaboratively. And we couldn't be prouder to have played a part in this exceptional celebration of progress.

On behalf of everyone at Comarch Telecommunications, thank you to all who connected with us this year. We look forward to strengthening these relationships and continuing to shape the future of telecommunications through innovation and collaboration.
